Trump’s legacy
So, Richard Amacher thinks Donald Trump is being attacked because he’s an outsider and isn’t part of the elite (Your Views, Sept. 25, “Fear of outsiders”).
It’s hard to conceive how Richard can overlook the documented fact that Trump inspired an insurrection and endangered democracy itself, cut taxes for the rich and corporations, but did virtually nothing for the lower and middle classes. He did all he could to cut regulations that favor business but endanger the environment and the health of the citizens of this country, with his only goal being to gain and keep power and make money.
And that’s just for a start. We don’t know, and may never know, what he has done to damage the country’s security and that of other countries.

Right-wing cartoons
Cartoonist Tom Stiglich is just a Tucker Carlson who thinks he can draw. The Sept. 21 Martha’s Vineyard rendering is the latest of his continual, mean-spirited, inaccurate efforts.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis sent 50 Venezuelan migrants seeking help to Martha’s Vineyard. They didn’t know where they were going. They just knew they were promised jobs and assistance.
Martha’s Vineyard is an 87-mile-long island. Seventeen-thousand people live there. DeSantis notified no one.
The small homeless shelter and the Episcopal church stepped up. The community provided shelter, food and clothing.
High school Spanish students worked as translators. After two days, Massachusetts’ Republican governor and the U.S. immigration department moved the people to Joint Base Cape Cod.
Massachusetts is not a sanctuary state. Martha’s Vineyard is not an official sanctuary city. Yet, they offered common humanity and care to frightened migrants in need.
My information comes from CBS, NPR and PolitiFact.
Tom Stiglich’s information comes from right-wing nonsense.

Keep abortion legal
Abortions were just made illegal in several states throughout the U.S. However, according to people who are against abortions, most people believe that what women do with their bodies should be their choice and their choice only.
Statistics show that only 50% of high school girls that get pregnant actually graduate. Not many are financially stable enough to take care of a child at such a young age.
Banning abortion also keeps people in poverty, because they aren’t able to change their financial or educational circumstances as easily as they would if they didn’t have kids.
Banning abortions doesn’t mean that abortions will no longer be happening, it just means that they will be performed illegally and potentially in an unsafe environment.
It could also lead to negative long-term health problems and create a lack of access that would greatly impact the number of pregnancy-related deaths.
Speak up and activate your network. This means you can protest. You can also learn more about abortion laws in your state and find out where your lawmakers stand on abortion rights.
One idea to help people understand why we need legal access to safe abortions is to explain why a person would want or need an abortion, because there is more than one reason.
Another realistic solution would be to support organizations that seek to keep abortions safe and accessible to all who need this vital health care option. You could do this by going online, finding an abortion clinic and donating money to them.
